Strike While the Iron is Hot!

Many organizations are unable to hire the best candidates because of a misconception that “there is plenty of time.” Frequently, organizations contact us with job orders because there is an immediate need-a position is vacant and the workload is either not getting done or being pushed off to others.

Here is the problem that arises more times than not: We rush to source, screen and submit candidates that we believe are good and maybe even excellent. But the organization either can’t interview them in a timely manner or is unable to do so. Alas, a competitor comes along and grabs what would have been an excellent addition to the client’s workforce-the client loses and we lose.

It is my personal belief that there is seldom any excuse that would justify a client failing to interview a candidate within a week of receipt, yet it happens frequently. A good template to follow, if you want to hire the best, is:

  1. Hire a recruiting firm that focuses on JOB FIT
  2. When you receive a candidate from that firm, evaluate it within 24 hours and either get back to the Recruiting firm or the candidate  with you desire to interview or decline.
  3. Make certain that you set an interview date within 5 business days of your receipt of their credentials.

Following these 3 simple rules will eliminate most, if not all of “I have already accepted another position” responses and begin to add top candidates to your workforce.
